Design Writing
"Looking on the bright side" - feature for House Beautiful
For House Beautiful's 2018 color issue, I wrote a Q+A feature on a palatial Upper East Side apartment designed by Katie Ridder and John B. Murray. The focus was on integrating design tips and tricks into the normal flow of an interview.
"GLAM SLAM" - feature for House Beautiful
For House Beautiful's 2018 "Small Spaces" issue, I wrote a feature on designer Nicholas Obeid's Chelsea studio. The challenge was to condense a voluminous conversation into a 700-word piece, and to give the reader design "takeaways" naturally. I also wrote the hed, dek and caption copy for this story.
"Downtown Premiere" – Feature for EllE DECOR
I wrote a feature for Elle Decor on a Tribeca apartment by designer Kevin Dumais. I was tasked with introducing Dumais to ED readers while simultaneously giving compelling context to the project. The research process included an onsite interview with the homeowners, product fact-finding, and a long conversation with an art advisor about what kind of paintings bankers like to buy.
bio for Frank De Biasi
Frank de Biasi is an AD100 interior designer. He hired me to craft a new bio for his website and marketing outreach. I interviewed him in his Manhattan office and wrote a profile that highlighted his love of travel, his deep network of sources and his "perfect fluency in color, proportion and light."
MARKETING COPY FOR DUMAIS MADE
In 2017, interior designer Kevin Dumais collaborated with his husband, acclaimed lighting designer Charlie Dumais, to launch a line of ceramics. I interviewed them both and wrote a bio that highlighted the company's handmade approach, and how their debut collection is full of "versatile pieces, designed to fit naturally into a room at first glance, then wow on closer inspection."
Bio for Kevin DUmais
Award-winning designer Kevin Dumais hired me to write a bio for his website. I interviewed him, and crafted a short profile that highlighted his skill at creating "elegant rooms where dinner parties are hosted, weekends are relished and real lives are lived well."
Marketing Copy/BRANDING for jon Call
Interior designer Jon Call (aka "Mr. Call") hired me to write a bio for his website and marketing outreach. I interviewed him and wrote a piece hailing him as "both the past and the future of interior design; he is equally comfortable sketching plans for custom casegoods as he is posting fabric options for clients on Pinterest." Later, he and I collaborated on a brand strategy one-sheet for a student housing company: Campus Life & Style.
